Last night's Soundcheck was GREAT FUN!! Lots of dancing, lots of fancy dress (why??? why not!!!)
I took so many wonderful photos but, alas, no camera. So a (karma laden) message to the lovely cad who stole my snapper, I'm not mad at you, I'm just very very disappointed. (the classic guilt trip)
But lets not dwell on the negative! It was cool to see some pals from the Noggin out last night! Big up the art+design portfolio course! Also the wonderful artist Adrian Gallagher was getting his sound checked. Best known for these...

He also takes a gorgous photo...

Thanks to Ed Mackey, Conor the Shark and the gorgeous YoCo who played ALL the tunes to get us dancing, and of course to the Kidneys who kicked it off in style. Gold spandex - YES!!

For my birthday party and halloween celebration at Soundcheck tonight, I selflessly slaved away in the kitchen all day yesterday for what? The most awful looking (but divine tasting) cupcakes of all time. Two terrifying flavours to torture your tastebuds. Black Heart Horror cupcakes and Pirate Rum Blood cupcakes (both with sprinkles of course.) Try if you dare Mmwwah Ha Ha Ha!!!

 What happened here???
Don't forget, besides the culinary catastrophe, there will be tunes a plenty from the wonderful guest Dj's.

from the Soundcheck blog....
SoundCheck faves Vampire Weekend are hitting the Ambassador this Thursday, so rock into SoundCheck before the gig, where we'll be blasting out some Vamp tunes, and other great stuff. Grab some cakes and rock it! If you want to head into SoundCheck///AfterParty after 11 from the gig, show your ticket stub at the door and get in for a recession-busting 3yoyo instead of 5.
As usual, SoundCheck runs from 7pm - 2.30am. Before 11pm, it's free in and we've got some SAVAGE cocktails going at 2-for-1. That's just a tenner for two yumsies cocktails. After 11pm, it's a fiver in, and we've got cheap and cheerful beer, cider, vodka+dash for just 4yoyo. Howdjalikethemapples?
This Thursday, the line-up is the bomb. It's the debut SoundCheck appearance of Rapture Ponies, whose blog was singled out by the Guardian recently as one of their favourite Irish online reads.
Bluebirds Are So Natural under their moniker Songs For Swinging Children make their return after a banging set a while ago. Expect swinging tunes for swinging kids, some durrrty pop, and your favourite indie buzz.
It's also the SoundCheck debut of Conor The Shark, an elusive character who listens to bands that don't even exist yet.
Our homeboy Quigo is back from Africa and will be picking up the tempo with his favourite tunes, and your SoundCheck residents Sarah Fox and UnaRocks will also be there playing the latest cuts. And upstairs, Le Cirque will be combining their deadly mix of electro, fashion, art, dressing up, and dancing.
So, one two, one two, are you ready to SoundCheck?

OCT.2nd-Update
OhMyGoodness it's almost OCTOBER!
Turns out we've done something right in SPY. They're letting us stay up past our bedtime. Soundcheck, as of October the second, goes late night! I can't wait!! So for those of you fine folks who love Soundcheck, fear not, we're keeping it the same...then AFTERPARTY-after 11, will kick it up a notch.
In other OCTOBER news
Le Cirque, Dublin's newest weekly club night, launches Thursday 2nd October at Wax, South William Street. The club will focus on the theatrical side of going out; it will fuse fun and debauchery with a cutting edge fashion and music policy. The idea behind the night stemmed from a lack of forward thinking nights around Dublin. Taking inspiration from underground club nights such as Boombox, Smash n Grab and Favela Chic in London, Le Cirque has four ingredients-music, fashion, art and fun. Our gorgeous friend Lady Jane (boysmakebetterdjs) will be launching her new night on October the second.... Pay a mere fiver in to the WHOLE OF SPY and you'll get the best of both worlds... Soundcheck//Afterparty and Le Cirque.

Well check out the sexy new site, created by Patrick Mullen Design. I love the graph paper background, a tribute to the fantastic Mr. Fox who wont write on anything else! I know the communication on the old website has been sporatic at best, the bulk of natter was over on wordpress.

Sept 08 Soundcheck lineup
Last thursday rocked....Bluebirds are so natural kicked it off with some really sweet tunes and even sweeter cupcakes! I heard the Violent Femmes for the first time in yonks and it sent me straight back to all the fun times in high school (yes we call it high school in Canadia...) Then the Grand Pocket Orchestra traded off on the decks with some lovely lovely tunes. Quigo, As USUAL, was fab fab fab but the treat of the night was Jim Carroll who pulled some stompers out of the bag. Every tune was bigger and better than the last. 11 oh clock? Forgetaboutit!!! oh I love soundcheck.xx

March 08
I'm watching the rugby (sortof) and recovering from the fabulous launch party which was last night in SPY. It was so much fun! Ok, so there were a few glitches, but in the true spirit of things, everyone pulled together and helped to make the night amazing. I'm so happy with the way the book turned out. When the boxes first arrived it took me quite a while to muster up the courage to peek inside. I was over the moon though when I finally did. The printers, IMPRESS printing, did a wonderful job. The paper is 100% recycled and lends perfectly to the artwork. It's a beut! Now I wait with baited breath for the vinyl, on it's way from France...
Feb 08
New News! I have, at long last, sent the tunes off to be turned into vinyl by VINYLE PRESSE INDUSTRIES in France. (oui oui!!) I have gorgeous songs from Adrian Crowley, Goodtime John, an asskicker from MeNoFemBo and (the newest addition) a brilliant
song from More Tiny Giants.
Happy days!
Jan 08
These are the humble beginnings of what I know is going to bloom and flourish into an amazing collection.
I had the tiniest hint of an idea for this project a while back and for what seemed like ages it existed only in my thoughts and dreams and wine induced yipyap. Now it is finally coming to fruition, thanks to the support (and kicks up the bum) from my nearest and dearest. The first album will be out in the beginning of March, on vinyl. All editions will be accompanied by a beautiful book of artwork produced by some wonderfully talented people. And the album will have some damn fine tunes as well. I can't wait
